Environmental declaration
In accordance with the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) Regulation (EC) No. 1221/2009, we use this environmental statement to communicate our environmental performance internally and externally.
With a founding year of 1328, the Augustiner Brewery is the oldest of all Munich breweries. The company philosophy of today's Augustiner-Bräu Wagner KG is based on our long history, which is founded on the main pillars of quality, tradition and regionality. Even though nowadays our beers are brewed with the help of modern machines and equipment, our main focus is still on the quality of the product. Committed to tradition, we process regionally produced malting barley to brewing malt of excellent quality in the company's own barn malting plant.
Environmental protection plays a decisive role in our company. We regard the legal and official obligations as minimum requirements in all areas. We have already been awarded the Ökoprofit environmental certificate since 2012. As an EMAS-certified company, we have been participating in the demanding European environmental management system since 2021. In our environmental statement, we commit ourselves to the economical use of resources and to a significant reduction of water, energy and wastewater as well as to the reduction of CO2 emissions. The economically justifiable use of the best available technology and the consideration of ecological criteria in the selection of our suppliers are also among the goals and measures we have set ourselves.
Our Augustiner beer is a natural product. All raw materials are 100 percent natural in origin. Only an intact environment can provide us with high-quality raw materials - and we need these for our claim to the quality of our beers. To ensure the long-term preservation of natural resources and to make an active contribution to environmental protection that goes far beyond the legal requirements, we have established an EMAS-approved, sustainable environmental management system.
For Augustiner Bräu Wagner KG, protecting the environment is an obligation to our employees, our customers, our fellow human beings and future generations. We take our responsibility seriously. For us, protecting our environment is a very important part of securing the future of Augustiner-Bräu Wagner KG.
We are committed to continuous improvement in all operational measures. To this end, we have established an environmental team in which employees from every area of the company are represented. With the help of environmental indicators, we can track the fulfillment of our environmental goals and assess measures.
We produce a large part of the electricity we consume ourselves by operating our combined heat and power plant and photovoltaic systems.
The additional external electricity required has been purchased as green electricity since 2020.
For heat generation, we use the biogas produced in our wastewater treatment plant.
We will continue to reduce our water consumption, process energy consumption, and electricity consumption of the refrigeration plants.
We have established a waste and hazardous materials management system, which we are continuously improving.
We conclude long-term direct contracts with our regional barley and hop farmers. In this way, we support farmers in our region and ensure that the transport of raw materials results in the lowest possible CO2 emissions.
Thanks to the use of different and old barley varieties, we contribute to the preservation of variety diversity - keyword biodiversity.
We regularly discuss environmental and climate-related issues and potential for improvement with our raw material suppliers.
We offer our employees a discounted job ticket for public transportation and favorable conditions at bicycle dealers as well as a bicycle garage. E-bikes are available for short journeys, as well as an e-car for city traffic and an e-truck for deliveries to downtown restaurants.
We try to avoid air travel as far as possible and mainly use trains for business trips.
The wooden barrel - our oldest reusable container - is still in use today in our beer gardens, pubs and at the Oktoberfest. Environmentally friendly and traditional, we serve our Augustiner beer from it in excellent quality.
